Lesson 210 – (háng and xíng) 2

 

Hello, everyone. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Today, I will explain the usage of háng and xíng！

行xíng

1、走：行走。步行。旅行。行踪。

wǒ de zhōng guó zhī xíng zhēn lìng wǒ dà kāi yǎn jiè.

我  的    中      国    之   行     真    令   我  大  开  眼  界。

My trip to China really opened my eyes.

2、出外时用的：

xíng lǐ

 行  李 luggage

3、从事：进行。Engage, doing

xíng yī

  行  医 practice medicine

fán shì yīng xiān sī ér hòu xíng.

 凡   事   应    先   思 而  后   行。

You should think first before doing everything.

(Look before you leap.)

4、足以表示品质的举止行动：行径。Demonstrative behavior

pǐn xíng duān zhèng

 品   行      端      正     decent behavior

5、可以：不学习不行。

nǐ gěi wǒ fān yì zhè fēng xìn xíng ma?

你 给  我   翻  译  这  封    信   行    吗？

Would you please translate this letter for me ?

nǐ nǎ tiān yǒu kòng? wǒ nǎ tiān dū xíng.

你 哪  天   有    空 ？  我  哪  天    都   行。

When are you available? I am available any day.

6、能干 competent/ have the ability to do something

nǐ zhēn xíng

你   真    行。You are really good!

7、将要：will, be going to

xíng jiāng bì yè

  行    将   毕  业。Going to graduate.

8、古代指自然界的基本元素：五行（“金”、“木”、“水”、“火”、“土”）。

行 háng

1. 直排为行，横排为列 [line；row] 

tā dú le jǐ xíng,  hé shàng shū běn.

她 读 了几 行， 合   上       书   本。

She read a few lines and closed the book.

2. 行业。原指工商业中的类别，后亦泛指职业 [trade；profession；line of business]

háng háng chū zhuàng yuán

  行      行     出      状       元

状元 originally means “Number One Scholar;” 

 Nowadays, it is used to praise someone who is outstanding in what she/he does.

Success doesn’t depend on the type of job we do, but rather on how we do it. Every profession has its master(s).

我干警察这一行；你干哪一行？

3. 在行： expert， skilled

kǒng pà wǒ xiū diàn nǎo bù zài háng.

  恐    怕  我   修   电    脑  不  在   行。

I am afraid I don’t know how to repair the computer.

4. 营业机构；商行 [business firm]。如：行铺(商行店铺)

5. 排行 [seniority among brothers and sisters]。如：你行几，我行一；

 nǐ yào shì xíng, gàn yī háng xíng yī háng, yī háng 

你 要    是   行， 干  一   行     行   一   行，一  行

xíng háng háng xíng, nǐ yào shì bù xíng, gàn yī háng 

 行      行     行    行， 你  要   是  不   行， 干  一   行

bù xíng yī háng, yī háng bù xíng, háng háng bù xíng.

不    行  一   行，一   行   不   行，   行     行    不   行。
