Lesson 193 – cǐ dì wú yín sān bǎi liǎng
Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese
Language Learning Program. Last time we learned the difference between “折”and“拆”in Chinese. Today, we
will learn the cǐ dì wú yín sān bǎi liǎng(此地 无 银 三 百 两).
cǐ dì wú yín sān bǎi
liǎng
(There are no 300 taels of silver buried here. -- a
clumsy denial resulting in self-exposure; a guilty person gives himself/herself away by
conspicuously protesting his innocence.; a very poor lie which reveals the
truth; protest one's innocence too much)
1. míng míng shì tā rě de shì, hái zhǎo jī huì yìng
shuō bu shì tā, zhēn shi cǐ dì wú yín
sān bǎi liǎng.
(He obviously messed things up, but
still finds opportunities to insist that he did not do that. This is really
admitting his guilt.)
2. tā jí lì shuō zhè
shì yǔ tā wú guān, kě liǎn què
hóng hóng de, zhè zhēn shi cǐ dì wú
yín sān bǎi liǎng.
(He tried to say that this had nothing
to do with him, but his face was red. This obviously was admitting his guilt.)
Ok, that is all for today.
