Lesson 128 – Location words in Chinese

Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time we talked about a Chinese poem. Today, we will talk about some location words.

fāng wèi cí

  方     位 词 (Location words)

dōng  xī   nán  běi

   东    西    南    北 (east, west, south, north)

dōng běi                              dōng nán

   东    北 (Northeast)             东     南 (Southeast)

xī běi                                    xī nán

西 北 (Northwest)              西  南 (Southwest)

dōng běi jiǎo

   东    北   角 (Northeast corner)

xīn lóu zuò luò zài xīn shì jiè hé xin hua yī yuàn de dōng běi 

 新  楼   座    落   在  新   世 界  和  新   华  医    院   的     东    北

   前   后    左   右 (front, back, left, right)

  左   后    方 (the rear left)              正     后    方 (directly behind)

shàng xià                                       zuǒ shàng

上     下 (up, down)                      左     上 (upper left)

  右  下 (lower right)                          正        中 (middle)

wài miàn                                        lǐ miàn

  外   面 (outside)                          里  面 (inside)

Ok, today’s idiom:

  

zuǒ yòu wéi nán

  左   右   为    难 (in a dilemma; Caught in the Middle)

qù hái shì liú, tā zhēn shi zuǒ yòu wéi nán.

去   还   是 留, 她    真    是  左    右    为   难.

(She was in a dilemma as to whether to go or stay.)
