Lesson 84 – Tongue twister in Chinese

Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time we talked about all kinds of punctuations in Chinese. Today, we will have a tongue twister.

   zhī zhī wéi zhī zhī

《知   之   为   知  之》

(What you know, you know,)

--practice the whole syllable “zhi”

zhī zhī wéi zhī zhī,

知   之   为    知  之，

(What you know, you know,)

bù zhī wéi bù zhī,

不  知   为   不  知，

(what you don't know, you don't know.)

bù yǐ bù zhī wéi zhī zhī,

不以  不   知   为  知  之，

(Do not take what you don’t know as what you know,)

bù yǐ zhī zhī wéi  bù zhī,

不 以 知   之   为    不  知，

(Do not take what you know as what you don’t know,)

wéi cǐ cái néng qiú zhēn zhī.

 唯  此 才    能    求     真    知。

(Only doing this, we can know the truth.)

Today’s idiom is:

zuò jiǎn zì fù

  作   茧  自缚

(be caught in one's own trap； cocoon oneself like silkworms； fall into a pit of one's own digging)

jīn tiān nǐ men zuò jiǎn zì fù.

今  天   你   们    作   茧  自 缚。

(Today, you are caught in your own trap.)
