Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time we talked about how to getting a haircut in China. Today, we will talk about going shopping in China.

gòu wù zhòng xīn / shāng chǎng

  购   物     中     心  /      商        场

(shopping center; shopping mall)

shāng diàn                        chāo shì

    商     店(shop; store)       超    市(supermarket)

shū diàn                            mǎi dōng xi

 书    店(bookstore)           买     东   西(go shopping)

shòu huò yuán

   售     货     员(salesman; sales clerk)

guì                                pián yi

 贵 (expensive)             便   宜(cheap)

dǎ zhé                          fù qián

 打  折 (on sale)           付  钱(to pay money)

qīng cāng

  清     仓 (final clearance )

kè hù fú wu

客 户  服  务 (Customer Service)

shòu hòu fú wu

   售    后   服  务 (After-sales service)

bàn jià

  半  价 (to sell at half price; to give 50% discount)

nǐ mǎi shén me?

你  买     什    么 ？

(Can I help you?  (literally - You're buying what?))

nǐ hái yāo mǎi shén me ne?

你  还  要    买     什    么  呢 ？(What else do you want to buy?)

zhè zhī tài guì le,  nà zhī duō shǎo qián?

 这  支  太   贵 了，那  支   多     少     钱 ？

(This's too expensive, how much is that one?)

zhè kàn qǐ lái zěn me yàng?

 这   看   起 来   怎  么    样 ？(How would this look?)

qǐng wèn zhè jiàn yī fú duō shǎo qián?

  请     问    这   件  衣 服  多     少     钱 ？

(May I ask how much is this clothes?)

wǒ zài nǎ'er fù kuǎn?

 我  在  哪 儿 付   款 ？(Where do I pay?)

tǎo jià huán jià

 讨  价    还   价 (Bargaining)

zhè ge duō shǎo qián?

 这   个   多    少     钱？(How much is this?)

nà gè duō shǎo qián?

 那 个   多     少     钱？(How much is that?)

zhè zhí duō shǎo měi yuán?

 这   值   多     少     美    元？How much is this in US dollars?

hěn pián yi

 很     便  宜(It's a good deal.)

pián yi yī xiē hǎo ma?

  便  宜 一 些   好    吗 ？(Can I have it for a little bit less?)

wǒ xiǎng mǎi liáng xié

 我    想      买    凉    鞋 (I’d like a pair of sandals, please)

néng gěi wǒ yī gè shōu jù ma?

   能    给  我 一  个    收   据  吗？(May I have a receipt?)

nǐ men shōu měi yuán ma?

你   们     收     美    元    吗？(Do you take US dollars?)

nǐ men shōu yīng bàng ma?

你  们       收    英      镑     吗？(Do you take British pounds?)

nǐ men shōu xìn yòng kǎ ma?

你  们      收    信    用    卡   吗? (Do you take credit cards?)

Today’s idiom is:

shuǐ luò shí shū

  水   落    石   出

(When the water subsides, the rocks emerge.; Doubts will clear up when the facts are known.; reach the bottom of sth.)

For example:

tā shì tú bǎ zhè jiàn shì nòng gè shuǐ luò shí chū.

他 试  图 把   这   件   事    弄     个   水    落   石   出。

(He is trying find out what really happened.)
