Lesson 183 – Conversation 9 from bú jiàn bú sàn

Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time we learned how to use “chě, chèn and bù rú” from Conversation 8. Today, we will have conversation 9 from the Chinese movie—不见不散 ( bú jiàn bú sàn).

bú jiàn bú sàn

 不  见   不  散 ( Be There or Be Square )

Woman:  zěn me jiù nǐ yī gè rén a? xīn niáng zi ní?

                  怎   么 就 你 一 个  人 啊？新     娘   子 呢？

                (Why are you alone? Where is the bride?)

Man: shì wèi hūn qī,  tā qù xǐ shǒu jiān le.

          是   未   婚   妻, 她  去 洗   手    间  了。

         (Fiancée, she is in the rest room.)

Woman: xiè xiè.

                谢  谢。(Thanks.)

Are you ready to order?

One more person.

Man: xiè xiè nǐ néng lái hé wǒ men yī qǐ chī fàn, wǒ xī wàng nǐ

          谢   谢 你    能   来 和  我     们 一 起  吃  饭，我 希    望   你

         néng hé mò nī kǎ chéng wéi hǎo péng yǒu. tā tè dān chún.

            能   和   莫 妮 卡     成      为   好     朋    友。她 特  单     纯。

         (Thanks for coming. I hope you and Monica can be friends.  

          She is very simple.)

Woman:  zhù hè nǐ a, zhōng yú zhǎo dào yì zhōng rén le.

                  祝  贺 你啊，  终    于    找    到  意     中      人 了。

                shì yī jiàn zhōng qíng ba?

                 是 一  见       钟      情   吧？

                (Congratulations. You finally found your soul mate.

                  Was is love at the first sight?)

Man: yě tán bù shàng yī jiàn zhōng qíng. dàn shì wǒ men yī

          也 谈   不      上   一  见      钟       情。  但   是   我   们   一

          liáo ba jiù jué dé tè mò qì.  nǐ zhī dào wǒ de yīng yǔ yě

           聊   吧 就  觉  得 特  默  契.  你 知   道   我  的   英   语  也

          bù suàn hǎo, kě shì wǒ hái méi shuō wán ne tā jiù

          不    算     好，可  是  我   还   没      说     完    呢 她 就

          quán míng bái le. zhēn shi tǐng shén de.

             全      明    白了。  真    是   挺      神   的。

          (Not much like that. But as soon as we started talking,

           there was some connection. You know my English is

           not good. But she understands me even before I finish

           talking. That is really amazing.)

Woman: nà bù shì tǐng hǎo de ma!

                那 不   是  挺     好   的  嘛！

               (Isn’t that good?)

Man: wǒ yě bù zhī dào zhè suàn bù suàn hǎo, yǒu gēn nǐ yī

          我  也  不  知   道    这    算    不    算     好， 有    跟   你 一

          yàng dì dì fāng, yě yǒu bù yī yàng dì dì fāng.

            样   的 地  方, 也  有  不 一   样   的 地  方。

          (I don’t know if that is good or not. She is like you in some

           way, but not in other way.)

Woman: gàn ma fēi gēn wǒ bǐ ya? wǒ gēn nǐ yǒu shé me

                 干   嘛  非   跟   我 比 呀？我    跟  你  有    什   么

               guān xì ya?

                  关  系 呀？

               (Why compare us?  I have nothing to do with you.)

Man: wǒ bù shì gù yì ná tā gè nǐ bǐ,  wǒ jiù shì rěn bù zhù

          我  不   是  故 意 拿 她 个 你比，我  就   是  忍  不   住

          zhè me xiǎng. zhēn de,  lǐ qīng, kě néng nǐ duì wǒ wú

            这  么     想。    真   的, 李  清，可     能    你  对  我   无

          suǒ wèi,  kě shì wǒ xīn lǐ hái zhēn fàng bù xià nǐ. zhǔ

            所   谓，可   是  我  心 里  还    真     放   不  下  你。主

          yào shi mò nī kǎ ràng wǒ tè bié gǎn dòng, wǒ yào shi

           要    是  莫  妮卡    让    我 特  别   感      动，我   要    是

          bù gēn tā jié hūn jiù jué dé tè guò yì bù qù.   qí shí wǒ

          不    跟 她  结  婚   就  觉  得 特   过  意 不  去。其 实   我  

          xīn lǐ tè bié máo dùn.

           心 里特 别     矛   盾。

          (I did not do that on purpose. I just can’t help it. Really,

           Li Qing, You may not care about me, but I can not get

           you out of my mind. It’s just Monica impressed me,

           and I  would feel bad if I did not married to her. To

         be honest, I am really confused. )

Woman: wǒ jué dé nǐ zhè yàng tè bié bù hǎo, chī zhe wǎn

                我  觉  得 你   这    样   特  别  不   好，吃   着    碗

                lǐ de kàn zhe guō lǐ de. jì rán rén jiā nà me dān chún,

               里 的  看   着    锅  里的. 既 然   人  家  那  么   单     纯，

               duì nǐ yòu nà me chī qíng. nǐ zǒng dé duì rén jiā fù

                 对 你  又   那  么   痴   情。你   总    得  对   人  家 负

               diǎn zé rèn ba. yǒu xiē máo bìng nǐ zhēn dé gǎi gǎi

                 点   责  任  吧。有   些    毛     病  你    真   得   改   改

               le. bù shì wǒ shuō nǐ.  nǐ ya,  bù shì shuō nǐ yǒu duō

              了。不  是  我     说  你。你 呀,  不  是      说  你  有   多  

              huài, yě bù shì shuō nǐ pǐn zhí yǒu duō è liè, nǐ jiù shì

                坏，也  不   是    说   你  品   质  有     多 恶劣,  你 就  是

              tè bié méi pǔ,   jǐ rén gǎn jué ba, tè bié kào bù zhù. xiā

              特  别   没  谱，给 人    感   觉  吧, 特  别   靠  不   住。瞎

              huà zhāng zuǐ jiù lái, tǐng dà suì shǔ de rén le, yě chī

               话       张     嘴  就来，挺    大  岁   数   的  人 了, 也  吃

              le bù shǎo kuī.   nǐ zǒng yīng gāi dǒng dé yī diǎn qǐ

              了 不    少    亏。你    总    应    该     懂   得 一   点   起

              mǎ zuò rén de dào lǐ ba.   nǐ dào hǎo, jiù gēn yǒng yuǎn

               码   做   人   的  道  理吧。你  倒    好，就    跟     永     远

              chéng shú bù liǎo shì de.  wǒ shuō nǐ zhè xiē,  nǐ bié

                 成       熟   不  了   似  的。 我    说   你   这  些,   你  别

              bù ài tīng. zhēn de, wǒ zhè zhēn shi wèi nǐ hǎo.

              不 爱   听。  真   的，我   这    真     是  为  你  好。

              (I think this is very terrible, eat at the bowl and look at

              the pot. If she is so sweet and loves you so much, you

              should be more responsible. You should make some

              changes. It’s not that I am saying that you are bad, or

              you have bad character, but you are really unreliable.

              You make people thinks that you are unreliable. Some

              one as old as you have been through a lot, and tell the

              lies through  your teeth. But you should at least know

              how to be sensible with others. What you act that you’ll

              never grow up. Don’t be mad at me, I’m just saying that

              because I really want to help you.)

Man:  shì shì shì, wǒ zhī dào nǐ shì wèi wǒ hǎo, wǒ yě jué

           是   是  是，我   知   道   你  是  为   我   好，我  也  觉

         dé nǐ shuō de dōu duì. kě shì mò nī kǎ ba jué dé zhè

         得 你    说    的   都  对。可   是  莫 妮 卡  吧  觉  得   这

         xiē dōu shì wǒ de yōu diǎn. wǒ men liǎ yě liáo guò.

          些   都   是  我   的  优     点。我    们   俩 也   聊    过。

         nǐ bǐ rú nǐ shuō wǒ méi pǔ, kě shì zài tā yǎn lǐ, wǒ zhè

         你比 如 你    说   我    没  谱, 可   是  在  她  眼 里, 我   这

         shì bù xún guī dǎo jǔ.   nǐ shuō wǒ bù chéng shú, kě

          是  不   循   规   蹈   矩。你   说    我  不     成      熟，可

         shì tā qià qià rèn wéi zhè diǎn shàng zuì kě'ài de, bù

          是 她  恰   恰   认   为   这    点       上     最 可 爱 的,  不

         shì sú, tong xīn wèi mǐn. zhè xī fāng rén hé dōng fāng

          世  俗，童     心   未   泯。 这  西   方    人  和    东     方

         rén de jià zhí guān niàn jiù shì bù yī yàng. wǒ yě bù shì

          人  的  价  值    观     念   就   是  不 一   样。 我  也  不  是

         shuō nǐ de kàn fǎ jiù shì cuò wù de, měi guó nǚ hái ér ba,

            说   你 的  看  法  就  是    错  误  的，美    国   女   孩 儿 吧，

         ài jiù dà dà fāng fāng de ài, tā men bù jué dé zhǔ dòng

        爱  就 大  大  方     方    的 爱, 他   们   不  觉  得   主    动

         zhuī qiú duì fāng yǒu shé me bù guāng cǎi de. zhōng

          追    求   对    方    有     什   么 不      光     彩  的。  中

         guó nǚ hái ba, míng míng xīn lǐ xǐ huān, fēi yào zuò chū

           国  女   孩  吧，明       明    心 里喜    欢，非   要    做   出

         bù xǐ huān de yang zi, dào tóu er lái hài rén hài jǐ.  wǒ

         不 喜   欢    的    样   子,  到   头  儿 来  害   人   害 己。我

         bù shì shuō nǐ, nǐ méi zhè me shǎ, wǒ jiù shì xiǎng shuō

         不   是    说   你, 你  没   这   么   傻，我  就   是     想      说

         wǒ tǐng gǎn jī mò nī kǎ de. jiāng xīn bǐ xīn ma, tā yào shi

         我   挺    感  激 莫  妮 卡 的。 将    心  比  心   嘛, 她  要   是

         yě ràng wǒ cāi lái cāi qù de wǒ zǎo fán le.  Lǐ qīng, nǐ suì

         也    让   我   猜  来  猜  去 的  我   早   烦 了。李  清，你  岁

         shu yě bù xiǎo le, yě gāi xiǎng xiǎng nǐ zì jǐ de shì le,

           数  也  不   小  了, 也   该    想       想   你自己 的  事 了，

            能      找   个   情    投  意 合 的    当     然   是  最 理   想

         de le. wǒ hé mò nī kǎ jiù shì zhèng hǎo zhuàng shàng de.

         的了。我  和  莫  妮 卡 就   是     正      好        撞        上    的。

         zhè dōu shì kě yù bù kě qiú de shì er.  nǐ dé shí jì diǎn er,

           这   都   是  可  遇 不  可  求  的   事儿。你 得  实 际   点  儿，

         gēn nǐ tiáo jiàn chà bù duō de, rén yě dà gài qí shuō de

           跟 你  条    件    差  不    多  的,   人  也 大   概 齐   说    的

         guò qù jiù xíng le. zhēn de yě jiù shì gè bàn ér.

           过   去 就    行  了。真    的 也  就  是  个   伴  儿。

         (Yes, Yes, Yes, I know what you said is good for me.     

          And everything you said is true. But Monica sees all those

          things as good. We’ve talked about this. For example, you

          said that I am not reliable,  but she thinks that I’m just not

          following the beaten track. You said I am immature, but 

          she thinks that it is the cutest thing about me and I am

          unsophisticated and innocent. Western and Chinese

          people’s values are different. But I did not say that your

          opinion is wrong. Amercian girls, if they love you, you will

          express to you, and they do not care if they chase after the 

          guy. Chinese girls, they might like you, but they pretend

          that they don’t. This hurts everyone. I am not talking about

          you, because you are not that silly. I am saying that I really

          appreciate what Monica did for me. Feeling for her, if she 

          kept me guessing, I would have let her go. Li Qing, you 

          are not young either. You should think about yourself. It

          would be great to find someone who suit each other

          perfectly. Monica and I just met by chance. This is the

          thing that is hard to find but lucky to have. You need to

          be practical and find someone who is good enough and

          has everything you want. This is really only a parter. )

Woman:  shén me jiào chà bù duō jiù xíng le? gàn ma fēi děi

                   什    么  叫     差  不    多  就    行 了？  干   嘛 非  得

                zhǎo yī bàn ér ya? bù zhǎo yòu zěn me liǎo? nìng

                   找  一   伴 儿  呀？不    找    又    怎   么  了？    宁

                quē wù làn. wǒ zì jǐ de shì qíng zì jǐ zhī dào gāi zěn

                  缺   勿  滥。我 自己的  事     情  自己 知  道    该   怎

                me bàn. yòng dé zháo nǐ lái jiào wǒ ma?

                 么   办。  用    得    着   你 来  教   我  吗？

                (What is good enough? Why do I have to find

                 someone? So what if I don’t? Better nother than

                 setting for “good enough”. I can take care of myself,

                and no need you to tell me what to do. )

Man: nǐ bié jí ma!

         你  别 急 嘛！

        (Calm down.)

Woman: wǒ zěn me jí le? shì nǐ  jí le ba.

                我   怎   么急了？是  你急了 吧。

               (Me, Calm down?  You are the one who need to calm

                down.)

Man: wǒ zhè bù shì wèi le nǐ....

          我    这 不   是   为 了你。。。。

         (I was just trying to help you……)

Woman: yòng bù zháo!

                  用    不    着！(No need.)
