Lesson 186 – How to do the Sentence Conversion in Chinese I


Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time we learned some stocks terms in Chinese. Today, we will learn how to do the Sentence Conversion in Chinese.

                 (Sentence Conversion)

In our Program Lesson 117, we learned Chinese sentence structures,


We learned Basic simple sentence order and Complicated sentence order.

Totay, we will learn some sentence conversion in Chinese.

fǎn wèn jù
       (declarative sentence)

chén shù jù
         (rhetorical question sentence)

yǒu shí wèi le biǎo dá de xū yào, kě yǐ bǎ chén shù jù biàn wèi
                  要,可                  
fǎn wèn jù,  yě kě yǐ bǎ fǎn wèn jù biàn wèi chén shù jù,  tā
     句,也                         
men de yì si xiāng tóng, yǔ qì yǒu suǒ bù tóng.
     意思          同,语              同。
(Sometimes we use different sentence to express the same meaning. We can turn a declarative sentence into a rhetorical question, or we can turn a rhetorical question into a declarative sentence. They all express the same meaning, but have different mood.)

1.   fǎn wèn jù biàn chén shù jù
                    
(Turn a rhetorical question sentence to a declarative sentence.)

(1)  xiān shān chú fǎn wèn cí ( zěn néng, zěn me, nán dào,
                      词(怎     ,         ,       ,
 nǎ lǐ děng děng),  yǒu de jù zǐ kě shì dàng zài jiā shàng
  哪里         等),有                  
“hěn” “dōu” děng, shǐ jù zǐ biǎo dá de yì si gèng zhǔn
“很”“都”   等,  使 句子        意思        
 què.

(First, delete rhetorical question words (how could, how, could it be…? Ect.), and some sentences can be added some adverbs “very, all”, etc. Thus can express the meanings more precisely.)

(2)  rú guǒ jù zi lǐ yǒu fǒu dìng cí  “bù”,   shān qù. rú guǒ
                   句子里            词“不”,      .   
méi yǒu, jiù jiā shàng.
    ,        
(If there is a negative word “no” in the sentence, then delete it; if not, then add it.)

(3) shān qù  fǎn wèn yǔ qì cí “ma,   a,   ne děng děng ”
                 吗,啊,呢          ”  
biàn  “?”    wèi  “.”.
        “?”   为“。”。
(Delet rhetorical question words ma, a, neetc.and change “?” to “.”.)

Examples:

(1). wǒ zěn huì wàng jì nǐ ne?
                     记你呢? 
      (How could I forget about you?)
 
      wǒ bù huì wàng jì nǐ.
                  你。(I can not forget about you.)

(2).  wǒ nán dào bù shì duì nǐ zhè yàng shuō de ma?
                                               ?
       (Didn’t I tell you so?)

       wǒ zhèng shì duì nǐ zhè yàng shuō de.
                                       的。
       (I told you so.)

(3). zhè diǎn xiǎo shì, nán dào huán yào nín dān xīn ma?
           事,                            吗?
                (How could this little thing make you worry?)
             
               zhè diǎn xiǎo shì bù yào nín dān xīn le.
                                             了。
                (You do not need to worry about this little thing.)

2.   chén shù jù biàn fǎn wèn jù
                    
 (Turn a declarative sentence to a rhetorical question   
  sentence.)

(1).  jù zi jiā shàng  fǎn wèn cí ( zěn néng, zěn me, 
       句子                   (       能,     么,
     nán dào,  nǎ lǐ děng děng).
           道,哪里         ),
      (Add some rhetorical question words (how could, 
        how, don’t , where, etc. to the sentence.))

(2). rú guǒ jù zi lǐ yǒu fǒu dìng cí  “bù”,   shān qù. rú guǒ
          句子里              “       .   
      méi yǒu, jiù jiā shàng.
          ,        
      (If there is a negative word “no” in the sentence, then
      delete it; if not, then add it.)

(3). jiā shàng fǎn wèn yǔ qì cí  “ma,   a,   ne děng děng ”
                        吗,啊,呢,      ” 
 biàn  “”   wèi  “”.
             “.”        “?”.
      (Add some rhetorical question words ma, a, ne
       etc.and change “?” to “.”.)

Examples:

(1)  zhè běn shū bù shì nǐ de.
               的。
(This book doesn’t belong to you.)

zhè běn shū nán dào shì nǐ de ma?
                        吗?
(Is this book yours? )

zhè bù shū zěn me kě néng shì nǐ de ne?
                           呢?
(How could this book belong to you?)

(2) wǒ men dōu bù rěn xīn shāng hài tā.
                            她。
(We don’t have the heart to hurt her.)

wǒ men zěn néng rěn xīn shāng hài tā ne?
                                                 她呢?
              (How could we have the heart to hurt her?)

(3) zhè dōu shì nǐ de cuò.
             错。
(This is all your fault.)

zhè nán dào bù shì nǐ de cuò ma?
                    吗?
(Is not this your fault?)

Homework

1. fǎn wèn jù biàn chén shù jù
                         
(Turn a rhetorical question sentence to a declarative   
 sentence.)

(1)  dōng tiān lái le, chūn tiān hái huì yuǎn ma?
       来了,                     吗?
              (Winter comes, how can spring be far behind?)

(2)  dōu shì nǐ zì zhǎo de, wǒ zěn me bāng dé liǎo nǐ ne?
      你自                          ?
(You ask for all of these, how could I help you out?)

2. chén shù jù biàn fǎn wèn jù
                        
    (Turn a declarative sentence to a rhetorical question   
     sentence.)

(1)  nǐ hái shì ài wǒ de.
         的。(You still love me.)

(2)  nǐ kàn guò zhè bù diàn yǐng le.
                        了。
              (You watched this movie already.)
