Lesson 54 – Modest and honorific words in Chinese (II)


Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time, we learn modest and honorific words in Chinese part I. Today, we will talk about some modest and honorific words in Chinese part II.

gōng xǐ
      (congratulations)
nǐ jià shǐ cè yàn hé gé legōng xǐ
          了? 恭 喜!
(You've passed your driving test? Congratulations!)

qǐng wèn
      (please; would; could)
dǎ rǎo leqǐng wèn dào yóu jú zǒu nǎ tiáo lù
    了,  请  问  到 邮           路?
(Excuse me, could you tell me the way to the post office?)
  

cì jiào
(grant instruction)
qǐng bù lìn cì jiào.
  请 不   教。
(Please favour [enlighten] me with your instructions.)
  
bài tuō
   (request sb. to do sth; please; come on.)
wǒ zhēn xū yào nǐ shì yòng kàn kàn —bài tuō! 
 我 真 需     试  用  看 看  —    ! 
(I really want you to put it to the test -- please!  )
nǐ yào shì zuò fàn de huà, bài tuō bié nòng dé yī tuán zāo.
        做 饭   ,         别  弄 得    团 糟。
(If you cook, please just don't make a mess.)
  
gāo jiàn
    (brilliant idea)
nǐ duì zhè yī tí mù yǒu hé gāo jiàn
        有 何      见?
(What are your views on the subject?)
  
bài fǎng
     访 (visit)
zhè gè shí jiān qù bài fǎng shì bù hé shì de.
          间 去  拜 访            的。
(This is the wrong time to make a visit.)

shī yíng
    (fail to meet (a guest))
zuó tiān shī yíng lehěn bào qiàn.
 昨 天 失 迎 了,很 抱  歉。
(Sorry I was out when you called yesterday.)

guāng lín
        (coming; visit; to presence)
huān yíng nǐ men guāng lín wǒ xiào.
欢        们    光    我 校。
(Welcome you to our school.)

fèng péi
      (keep sb. Company)
shù bù fèng péi.
    不 奉 陪。
  
shī péi
   (Excuse me for my leaving or my absence.)
shī péi yī xiàwǒ xiǎng shì mén líng (zài xiǎng le).
     下,  想       门 铃   (在  响 了)
  
Ok, today’s idiom is
                         zuǒ sī yòu xiǎng
                                 
 ---means “keep thinking; Think over and over.”
