Lesson 69 – Take a taxi in China



Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time we have a beautiful poem. Today, we will talke about how to take a taxi in China.

chū zū chē Or  jì chéng chē
                        (Taxi)

dǎ di  or  chéng chū zū chē
打 的                      (Take a taxi.)

chū zū chē sī jī
       司机 (Taxi driver)

Dialogue:

Driver:  nǐ hǎo! xiǎo jiě, nǐ yào dǎ chē ma?
               好!              吗?
              (Hello Miss, do you need a taxi?)

Miss:   shì de.
               的。(Yes.)

Driver: nǐ yǒu xíng lǐ ma?
                      吗?
            (Do you have any luggage?)

Miss:   zhǐ yǒu yī gè shǒu tí xiāng.
                              箱。
            (Just this one suitcase.)

Driver: hǎo de, wǒ bāng nǐ bǎ tā fàng zài hòu bèi xiāng lǐ miàn,
                 ,                                   面,
             nǐ yào qù nǎ'er?
                  哪儿?
            (OK, I'll put it in the back for you. Where are you going?)

Miss:    jiàn guó mén fàn diàn
                              (Jianguomen Hotel)

Driver: zhè shì nǐ dì yī cì lái zhōng guó ma?
                 一次                吗?
             (Is this your first time in China?)

Miss:   shì de. wǒ de yī gè péng yǒu gào su wǒ shuō zài
               的。我                            
            běi jīng hěn nán zhǎo dào chū zū chē.
                                           车。
            (Yes, One of my friends told me it's very difficult to
             get a cab in Beijing.)

Driver: nà shì hěn duō nián qián de shì qíng le, nǐ kàn xiàn
                                             ,      
             zài běi jīng dào chù dōu shì chū zū chē.
                                          车。
             (That was several years ago. Now you see taxis
              every-where in Beijing.)

Miss:    wa, kàn qǐ lái jiāo tōng hěn dǔ ya.
               哇,看                   呀。
            (Wow, it looks like the traffic is really bad.)

Driver: shì de, qián miàn kě néng chū chē huò la.
                的,前                             了。
            (Yeah, there might be an accident up ahead.)

Miss:  hǎo de, nà zài xià yī gè shí zì lù kǒu tíng yī xià ba,
                             停     吧,
           wǒ xiǎng zài nà'er xià, rán hòu qù zuò dì tiě.
                       那儿  下,然            铁。
            (OK, then stop at the next intersection. I'm gonna
             get out there and take the subway.)

Driver: hǎo de.
                 的。(Ok.)

Miss:   duō xiè.
                 谢。(Thanks.)

Driver: bù kè qì.  zhù nǐ lǚ tú yú kuài!
                气。祝  你旅    快!
             (No problem. Have a nice trip!)

Today’s idiom is:

shā jī qǔ luǎn
     (Kill the goose that lays the golden egg.)

-----Means to destroy something that is profitable to you.
