Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time we learned the difference between “” and “” in Chinese. Today, we will learn the difference between “” and “” in Chinese.

jiǎn
  (choose; select ; pick out; pick up)

bǎ zuì hǎo de ping guǒ jiǎn chū lái.
                          .
(pick out the best apples)

jiǎn yào jǐn de shuō.
             说。
(Say what you think is most urgent.)

wǒ rú guǒ kàn jiàn de huà, wǒ zǎo jiù bǎ tā jiǎn qǐ lái le.
                  ,             来了.
(I would have picked it up if I had noticed it.)

tiāo féi jiǎn shòu
           
(pick the fat or choose the lean -- choose whichever is to one's advantage)

jiǎn
  (pick up; collect ; gather)

tā jiǎn qǐ nà běn shū dì gěi wǒ.
                我。
(He picked up the book and gave it to me.)

jiǎn chái huǒ
          (gather firewood)
