Lesson 170 –  Conversation 1 from a Chinese movie 


Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time we talked about brag in Chinese, today, we will learn a conversation from a Chinese movie—不见不散 ( bú jiàn bú sàn).

bú jiàn bú sàn
        ( Be There or Be Square )

Man1:  Hello, duì bù qǐ, wǒ yǒu yī gè hǎo xiāo xī gěi nǐ.
            Hello,      ,                  你。
            (Hello, excuse me, I have good news for you.)

Woman: duì bù qǐ, duì bù qǐ, wǒ tīng bù dǒng English.
                 ,     ,               English.
                (Sorry, sorry, I do not understand English.)

Man1: wǒ jiào huò huá dé, huān yíng nǐ dào wǒ men měi guó lái.
              我             德,                          来。
            nǐ men zhōng guó de cài hěn hào chī.
                                          吃。
            (I am Howard, Welcome to the USA. Chinese food is
             delicious.)

Woman:  nǐ shì liú yuán ba?
                           吧?(Are you Liu Yuan?)

Woman:  liǎng nián qián nǐ huí běi jīng, nǐ hē duō le nà cì.
                                         ,        次。
                (Two years ago when you went back to Beijing,
                  you drank a lot that time)

Man1:  nǎ cì  a?
              次啊?(Which time?)

Man1:  wǒ huí běi jīng yī gè duō yuè, nǎ yī tiān bù hē duō de.
                               月,哪一             的。
             ( I was in Beijing for more than one month, and I
              drank a lot every day.)

Woman:  liú xiǎo diàn qǐng chī fàn, nèi tiān chī de shì
                                    饭, 那          
                shàng hǎi cài.
                          
               ( Liu Xiaodian invited you for dinner that day, and we
                 had Shanghai food. )

Man1:  ó, duì duì duì, shì yǒu nà me yī cì, nǐ lái wǎn le.
           ,        ,          ,    了。
            (Oh, yes, yes, yes, I remember that time, you were late.)
            kě wǒ jì dé nà nǚ de tǐng hēi tǐng pàng ya.
              记得                       呀。
            (But I remember that girl was dark and fat)

Woman:  tǐng hēi tǐng pàng nà shì liú xiǎo diàn, wǒ jiù zuò tā
                                               淀,我       
                pang biān. xiǎng qǐ lái le ma?
                        边。       来 了  吗?
                (That was Liu Xiaodian. I was sitting next to her.
                 Remember?)

Women:  nǐ kě zhēn gòu méi liáng xīn de.  nèi tiān nǐ hē duō le,
                                       的。那           了,
                (You are really ungrateful. You drank a lot that day.)
                hái shì wǒ men bǎ nǐ sòng huí jiā de ne. chū zū 
                                          呢。出     
                (It was us who sent you home.)
                chē shàng nǐ hái tǔ wǒ yī shēn ne.
                   车                     呢。
                (You threw up all over me in the taxi.)

Man 2:  tā kěn dìng a hái wǎng nǐ shǒu shàng xiě diàn huà hào
                                                           
             mǎ lái zhe.
                  着。
             (He might write his phone number on your hand.)

Woman:  duì.
                 对。(Yes.)

Man2:  ér qiě huán yī biān xiě yī biān shuō:“mèi mei, shén me
                                    说:“妹    妹,    
             shí hòu zǒu liǎo dān, xiǎng zhe nǐ zài měi guó hái yǒu
                             单,                        
             yī gē.”
             哥。(And as he wrote he also said :”Little sister, 
             whenever you end up alone, please remember that you
             still have a big brother in USA.”)

Woman:  nèi tiān méi nǐ ya, nǐ zěn me zhī dào de?
                           ,              的?
                (You weren’t even there, how could you know?)

Man2:  tā yī hē duō le, jiù wǎng nǚ hái ér shǒu xīn lǐ xiě diàn
               ,                            
            huà hào mǎ.
                    码。
            (He always writes his number on a girl’s hand when he is
             drunk.)

Man1:  shuō zhèng shì er, shuō zhèng shì er.
                             儿,              儿。
            (Let’s talk about business, talk about business.)

Woman:  shén me zhèng shì er?
                                   儿?(What business?)

Man1:  tā men shì cóng běi jīng lái de shè zhì zǔ. yǐ qián wǒ men
                                            ,         
            dōu rèn shí, gēn liú xiǎo diàn yě rèn shí.  xiǎng zài nǐ men
                    ,                      识。           
            zhè'er pāi chǎng xì.
              在儿            戏。
             (They are a film crew from Beijing. We knew each other
               before, and they also know Liu Xiaodian. They want to
               shoot  a scene here.)

Woman:  pāi xì? yōu, nà kě bù xíng.
                 拍戏?  呦,那       行。
                (Shoot a scene? No way.)
