    Chinese Language Learning Program
Lesson 44 – Dialing a wrong number in Chinese

Hello, everyone. Welcome back. This is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time, we talked about making a phone call in Chinese. Today, we are going to talk about dialing a wrong number in mandarin Chinese.

nǐ hǎo, qǐng wèn Li xiān shèng zài ma?
  好,                          吗?
(Hello, is Mr. Li there?)

duì bù qǐ, kǒng pà nǐ dá cuò diàn huà le.
   起,恐                   了。
(Sorry, I am afraid that you dialed the wrong number.)

dá cuò le?  nǐ què dìng ma?
     了?你          吗?
(Wrong number? Are you sure?)

shì de,  wǒ yòng zhè gè hào mǎ yóu 3 nián le.
   的,我                       3      了。
(yes, I have been using this number for 3 years.)

zhè gè hào mǎ shì 763-4565 ma?
             763-4565  吗?
(Is this 763-4565?)

bù shì, zhè gè hào mǎ shì 736-4565.
   是,这           是 736-4565
(No. This number is 736-4565.)

kàn lái nǐ shì bō cuò le.
            了。
(It seems that you have misdialed.)

bù hǎo yì si,   dá rǎo nǐ le.  wǒ zài bō yī cì.
     思,打    你了。我     一次。
(Sorry, I bothered you. I will try again.)

méi guān xì. zhè zhóng shì jīng cháng fā shēng.
         系,这                             生。
(That’s all right. This sort of thing happens a lot.)

duō xiè.  zài cì bào qiàn!
     谢!再        歉!(Thanks! Sorry again!)

méi shēn me!
          么!(No worries!)

Ok, now let’s listen to a conversation about dialing a wrong number. This will be another test. Please listen carefully and catch up whatever you can. If you can understand the conversation, you will pass the test. Try your best to understand this conversation. Good luck!

Today’s idiom is “shì shī shèng yǜ xióng biàn. (事实胜于雄辩)”---means “Facts speak louder than words”.

That is all for today. We will talk about answering the telephone in Chinese in our next class.

xiè  xiè
    (Thanks!)

xià   cì   jiàn
       ! (See you next time!)
