Lesson 100 – Idioms related to 100 in Chinese

Today, it is the lesson 100, I am so proud of myself that I made 100 videos without stopping and I need to thanks everyone who watched and will watch my videos. It is you that give me the courage to finish these videos and make even more videos in the near future. So thank you every one! Ok, today, we will talk about some Chinese idioms related 100.

1.   bǎi sī bù jiě

 百 思 不  解

(cannot understand after repeated thinking)

nǐ de huà zhēn shi  ling  rén bǎi sī bù jiě.

你 的   话     真    是   令     人   百  思 不  解。

(Your words are simply incomprehensible.)

2.   bǎi fā bǎi zhòng

 百 发  百     中

(fire at the target a hundred times without a single miss)

tā dǎ bǎ néng bǎi fā bǎi zhòng.

他 打  靶   能     百 发  百     中。

(He could hit his target one hundred times without a single miss.)

3.   bǎi huā qí fang

 百   花   齐  放

(All flowers bloom together.)

wǒ men de jiào yù shì yè, zhèng rú bǎi huā qí fàng,

 我   们   的   教   育  事  业,     正   如   百   花   齐  放,

wàn mǎ bēn téng.

  万   马   奔    腾.

(Our educational work is like a hundred flowers in bloom, like ten thousnd horses galloping ahead.)

4.   bǎi nián bù yù

 百    年  不  遇

(once in a blue moon; only met with once every hundred years)

zhè shì yī chǎng bǎi nián bù yù de dà dì zhèn.

  这  是  一     场     百    年   不 遇  的  大 地   震。

(That was the biggest earthquake in a century.)

  

5.   qiān fāng bǎi jì

  千     方   百 计

(make every attempt [every possible effort；every endeavor] to)

jǐng chá qiān fāng bǎi jì dì qù xún zhǎo hái zi.

  警   察    千     方    百 计地 去   寻     找    孩  子。

(The police left no stone unturned to look for the child.)

6.   qiān zī bǎi tài

  千  姿  百  态

(in different poses and with different expressions)

zhè xiē sù xiàng qiān zī bǎi tài.

  这  些  塑    像      千   姿  百  态.

(These statues are in different postures and manners.)

7.   bǎi wén bù rú yí jiàn

 百   闻   不 如 一  见

(It is better to see once than to hear a hundred times.)

8.   qiān qí bǎi guài

  千   奇 百    怪

(all sorts [kinds] of strange things)

shí jiān hé qì hòu shǐ zhè xiē xuán yá qiào bì biàn

  时  间  和  气  候   使   这   些    悬    崖    峭   壁  变

de qiān qí bǎi guài.

 得   千  奇  百    怪.

(Time and climate fantasticated the cliffs.)

9.   bǎi lǐ tiāo yī

 百 里 挑  一

(one in hundred)

nǐ kě zhēn shi bǎi lǐ tiāo yī a!

你 可    真    是  百 里 挑  一 啊！

(You are one in a millon!) 

10.               shā yī jǐng bǎi

        杀  一  儆   百

       (execute one as a warning to others)

duì tā de chéng fá dàn yuàn néng qǐ dào shā yī jǐng

  对他  的     惩    罚  但     愿      能    起  到    杀  一  儆

bǎi de zuò yòng.

 百  的   作    用。

(Hopefully his punishment will act as a deterrent to others.)

11.               shēn jià bǎi bèi

          身   价  百   倍

       (have a sudden rise in social status)

yǒu de dōng xi jīn tiān sì hū yī wén bù zhí, dàn yǒu

  有  的    东   西 今   天  似 乎 一   文   不  值,   但   有

zhāo yī rì yě xǔ jiù huì shēn jià bǎi bèi.

   朝  一日也  许  就  会    身    价  百   倍.

(Something looks worthy nothing today, but it's price may rise up hundred of times one day.)

12.               bǎi jiā zhēng míng

       百  家    争       鸣

       (contention of a hundred schools of thought)

bǎi jiā zhēng míng de jú miàn yǒu lì yú kē xué de fán róng.

 百 家      争       鸣   的 局   面     有  利 于 科   学   的  繁    荣。

(Debates among different schools of thoughts can boost the development of science.)

13.               bǎi gǎn jiāo jí

        百   感   交  集

       (mixed feelings)

huí xiǎng qǐ tong nián, tā bǎi gǎn jiāo jí.

 回     想    起  童     年,   他 百    感   交  集.

(He looked back on his childhood with mixed feelings.)

14.               bǎi zhé bù náo

        百   折  不   挠

       (never yield in spite of reverses)

tā yǒu yī zhǒng bǎi zhé bù náo de jīng shén.

她  有  一    种      百   折  不   挠   的  精     神.

(She has an unconquerable spirit.)

15.               pò zhàn bǎi chū

       破   绽     百    出

      (loopholes appear one after another)

zhè ge àn zi pò zhàn bǎi chū, wǒ men zuì hǎo

  这  个 案 子 破    绽    百   出，我     们   最   好

chóng shěn yī xià.

重       审   一  下。

(The case is full of flaws, we'd better rehear it.)

16.               yī liǎo bǎi liǎo

      一  了   百   了

      (All troubles end when the main trouble ends.)

shì qíng cuò zōng fù zá, hěn nán zhǎo dào yī gè

 事    情    错     综   复 杂,   很   难      找     到   一 个

yī liǎo bǎi liǎo de jiě jué bàn fǎ.

一  了   百   了  的  解  决   办  法.

(Matters are very complex. It's very difficult to find a single solution to all problems.)
