Lesson 25 – week days and months in Chinese
Hello, everyone. It is so nice to see you again today. This
is Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time, we learned directions
in mandarin Chinese. Today, we are going to learn how to say week days and
months in mandarin Chinese.
Before we start to learn week days and months in mandarin,
we need to check the homework I gave to you last time.
xīng qí yī
yī yuè fèn
星 期 一 一 月 份
Did you read them correctly? Good. Now
we can start to learn weeks and
months in
mandarin. Saying week day and months in Chinese is very easy. Let’s see the
text and see how easy it is.
xīng
qí rì xīng
qí tiān
星 期 日 (Sunday) 星 期 天 (Sunday)
xīng

星 期 一 (Monday)

星 期 二 (Tuesday)
星 期 五 (Friday)
xīng
qí sān xīng qí
liù
星 期 三 (Wednesday) 星 期 六 (Saturday)
So, now you can see, when you say week
day you just need to put number behind the words xīng qí (week). For example, Monday, you only need
to put yī (one) behind xīng qí(week)--- xīng qí yī; For Tuesday, you need to
put èr (two) behind xīng qí(week)--- xīng qí èr. Use the same logic, you say Wednesday
as xīng qí sān; Thursday as xīng qí sì, etc. Only Sunday is different, you say
Sunday as xīng qí rì or xīng
qí tiān. Some times we say xīng
qí as zhōu (周).
For example, we say xīng qí yī as zhōu yī, xīng qí èr as zhōu èr, etc. But when
we say xīng qí tiān (rì), we say zhōu rì not zhōu tiān.

liù yuè fèn shí èr yuè fèn
六 月

月 份 (December)
Notice that when you say Month you only
need to put number in front of the words yuè fèn (month). For example, whe you
say January, you put one (yī) in front of yuè fèn (month)--- yī yuè fèn, so use
the same logic to say February, you put two (èr) in front of yuè fèn--- sān yuè
fèn, March, you put three (sān) in front of yuè fèn --- sān yuè fèn, etc.
Pretty easy, right?
Homework

Please read the following Chinese
characters by using the Chinese pinyin you have learned. I will read them in
our next class, so you can check if your pronunciation is correct.
