Lesson 16 – Family members in Chinese

Hello, everyone. Welcome back to Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time, we learned how to apologize in Chinese. Today, we are going to learn family members in Chinese language.

Before we start to learn family members in Chinese language, we need to check the homework I gave to you last time.

1     zhè  shì  wǒ  de  bà  bà.

这   是   我   的  爸   爸。

2       nà  shì  wǒ  de  mā  mā.

 那   是   我   的  妈   妈。

Did you read them correctly? Ok, Congratulations! You have already known how to read Chinese characters by using Chinese mandarin pinyin.

Now, let’s start to learn family members in Chinese mandarin.

These two sentences are about family members in Chinese.

1      zhè  shì  wǒ  de  bà   bà.

这   是   我    的  爸   爸。（This is my Dad.）

2       nà  shì  wǒ  de  mā  mā.

 那   是   我   的  妈   妈。(That is my Mom.)

Ok, let’s see more apologies in Chinese language.

nǐ yǒu  xiōng  di  jiě mèi  ma?

你   有     兄     弟    姐   妹   吗？（Do you have brothers or sisters?）

wǒ yǒu  yí gè dì  di  hé yí gè mèi  mei.

我   有   一  个  弟 弟 和  一  个  妹    妹。

（I have one brother and one sister.）

nǐ  jiā yǒu  jǐ kǒu rén?

你   家   有   几   口  人？(How many people are there in your family?)

wǒ  jiā yǒu sān  kǒu  rén , bà ba , mā ma,  gē  ge  hé wǒ.

 我   家   有    四    口    人,    爸  爸,   妈   妈,    哥  哥  和  我。

（There are four, my dad, my mom, my brother and I.）

nǐ  yǒu  hái   zi  ma?

你     有    孩   子  吗？(Do you have kids?)

wǒ  yǒu  liǎng  gè hái  zi,  yí gè nán hái  er,  yí gè nǚ hái  er.

 我    有     两    个   孩  子,  一   个   男  孩  儿,   一  个  女  孩  儿。

(I have two kids, one boy and one girl.)

wǒ  de  shū shu  shì lǎo  shī.

 我  的   叔   叔     是   老   师。（My uncle is a teacher.）

zhè  shì  wǒ  de  lǎo  pó  hé nǚ  ér.

 这   是     我   的  老   婆   和  女 儿。（This is my wife and my daughter.）

nà   shì  wǒ  de  lǎo  gōng  hé ér   zì.

那    是      我    的   老    公    和  儿   子。(That is my husband and my son.)

wǒ  de  yé  ye, nǎi nai  hé wǒ  de  gū  gu zhù zài yì qǐ.

我   的  爷  爷,    奶   奶  和   我    的  姑  姑  住   在   一  起。

(My grandparents live with my aunt.)

Homework for today.

Please read these two sentences by using the Chinese pinyin you have learned. I will read them in our next class, so you can check if your pronunciation is correct.

1.      wǒ  xǐ huān nǐ!

我   喜   欢    你！

2.      qīn  ài  de.

    亲  爱  的。
