Lesson 14 – Compliments in Chinese



Hello, everyone. Welcome back to Baixue’s Chinese Language Learning Program. Last time, we learned how to say thanks in Chinese. Today, we are going to learn how to say compliments in Chinese.

Before we start to learn how to say compliments in Chinese mandarin, we need to check the homework I gave to you last time.

Please listen to me and check if you read them correctly.

1.  nǐ   zhēn  piào  liàng.                                    xiè  xiè
                                                       !

2.  wǒ  xí huāng  nǐ  de  xié  zi.                         xiè  xiè
                         子。                    !

Did you read them correctly? Ok, very well.

Now, let’s start to learn how to say compliments in Chinese mandarin.
These two sentences are the compliments in Chinese

nǐ   zhēn  piào  liàng.                                                            xiè  xiè
              (You are pretty!)                              ! (Thanks!)

wǒ  xí huāng  nǐ   de  xié  zi.                                              xiè  xiè
                子。(I like your shoes!)              ! (Thanks!)

Ok, let’s see more compliments in Chinese language.

 nǐ  zhēn liǎo bù qǐ !
            起!(You are amazing.

nǐ guò jiǎng le .
           了。(You're flattering me.

nǐ bang  jí  le !
       了!(You are great!

gàn de bù cùo!
       错!(Great job!

nǎ  lǐ, nǎ  lǐ,   nǐ guò jiǎng le.
里, 里, 你          了!(That's nothing. / Not at all. I am flattered.

tài hǎo le !
    了!(Wonderful!

zhēn bú cuò !
       错!(That's really wonderful!

Homework for today.

Please read these two sentences by using the Chinese pinyin you have learned. I will read them in our next class, so you can check if your pronunciation is correct.

1.    duì  bù  qǐ !
    起!

2.    méi guān xi .
